Declarations
The declarations page (also called the policy schedule or "dec page") is the summary document at the front of your insurance policy. It states who and what is insured, the policy period, the coverage limits, the premium, and any special conditions that apply to your specific policy.
What to check on your declarations page
The declarations page is the first document to check when you receive a policy or renewal. Verify: the named insured (your name and address), the policy period (start and end dates), the insured property or vehicle details, the coverage limits and deductibles, and any endorsements or exclusions specific to your policy.
Errors on the declarations page — wrong address, incorrect vehicle details, wrong named insured — can affect a claim. Report any errors to your insurer immediately. See our guide to the five parts of every policy to understand how the declarations page fits into the overall policy structure.
