Business interruption
Business interruption cover pays for lost income and ongoing fixed costs when a business cannot trade normally following an insured event, such as a fire, flood, or other physical damage. It is typically triggered by the same event that triggers a buildings or contents claim.
What business interruption covers
BI cover typically pays for gross profit lost during the period of interruption, increased costs of working (e.g. temporary premises), and fixed overhead costs that continue even when trading has stopped. The maximum payout period is set by the indemnity period — choose this carefully, as it limits the total months over which claims can be made.
